Here we are in 2006 and there are a number of exotic travel sites that focus on adventure travel. Back in the late 90's as online dating sites were just emerging as the first social networking sites, we were working on the concept of combining social networking with online dating and travel. That's when www.edatetravel.com was born.
The concept was simple ~ allow people to add where they were going, when and the activities they wanted to do when they arrived as part of their profile. The service matches based on available people with the same profiles, or alerts you when someone matching your profile joins.
We were way ahead of our time back then. E-commerce was not yet fully emerged. Online travel was not at the levels we see now. I read somewhere the global travel industry is going to exceed 7 trillion this year 2006 alone. On top of that travel is the number 1 term searched for on the Internet and most people are doing their booking online.
Another interesting phenomonon is that as we are now entering the second decade of the Internet, the population of 'single travel' people has shifted to a wider cross section of travelers.
More and more of the early adopters of the Internet have gotten older and are now more adventurous. It's not uncommon the hear of people that are in their 50's that are financially secure and looking for someone or a group for the trip of a lifetime.
Perhaps a motocycle trip throughout Vietnam traveling past villages and into forgotten ruins that in many ways rival what is left in Egypt.
Another exotic destination in South East Asia. Take an exotic trip via Houseboat in India on one of the inland lakes in Kerala.
You can then take a trip to the 60's haven made famous by the Beatles - Goa. Goa is also known as 'the pearl of the east', and is known for its Gothic churches, age-old ruins, palm-fringed beaches, coconut groves, ferry rides, and bubbly folk music.
A form of Indy music has evolved from this region now know globally.
On travel companions matching site, www.edatetravel.com, we recieve link exchange requests from exotic locations like these on a daily basis. Some of these I was never even aware of their existance prior to starting our adventure travel directory.
I hope that all of you reading this Blog are as truly inspired by the diverse and exciting world we live. Join edatetravel if for anything else but to keep track of some of the exciting things happening by travelers all over the planet!
Every morning I open my email for link requests from travel locations from some new and exciting place, making me dream of the time I can again embark on my next adventure with someone new in this exciting world!
